The spring season is here! What better way to celebrate by getting outside and enjoying your outdoor landscape. As temperatures continue to rise, it’s important we feed our lawns so they can flourish and thrive all year long. Below, Carolina Fresh Farms includes recommended spring fertilizers for your St. Augustine, zoysia, bermudagrass, centipede or fescue lawn.
St. Augustine Spring Fertilizer Program
Around April 15th, we suggest applying a 16-25-12 w/ MESA as a spring St. Augustine fertilizer. The 16-25-12 w/ MESA serves to provide phosphorus for root growth as St. Augustine starts to green up from winter temperatures again. This sets your St. Augustine up for success by having a strong, reliable root system throughout the various challenges it may face during the year.
We recommend also making a second application of fertilizer between the dates of May 15th–May 21st with a 19-0-6 Confront 3/Dimension. This application will give your lawn the proper amount of nitrogen to help it keep a lush, green color as we move into the summer. Additionally, it comes with post-emergent and pre-emergent control for summer weeds.
Zoysia Spring Fertilizer Program
Similar to St. Augustine fertilizer maintenance, we suggest applying a 16-25-12 w/ MESA around April 15th. The 16-25-12 w/ MESA will give your lawn the necessary amount of phosphorus for root growth as it begins greening up from winter temperatures. This will make your zoysia lawn’s root system strong and reliable all year.
Make a second application of fertilizer between the dates of May 15th–May 21st with a 19-0-6 Confront 3/Dimension. This application will provide your zoysia with nitrogen to help it keep a lush, green color as we move into the summer. Additionally, it comes with post-emergent and pre-emergent control for summer weeds.
Bermudagrass Spring Fertilizer Program
Bermudagrass requires nutrients as it greens up from winter temperatures. We suggest applying 16-25-12 w/ MESA around April 15th. This fertilizer provides phosphorus to your lawn for root growth so that it’s durable and healthy for the rest of the season.
We recommend also making a second application of fertilizer between the dates of May 15th–May 21st with a 19-0-6 Confront 3/Dimension. This application will give your lawn the proper amount of nitrogen to help it keep a lush, green color as we move into the summer. 19-0-6 Confront 3/Dimension also comes with post-emergent and pre-emergent control for summer weeds.
Centipede Spring Fertilizer Program
Centipede grass grows best when no more than 1–2 pounds of nitrogen per growing season is applied to the lawn. The 20-0-25 EXPO will provide 1 pound of nitrogen in a form that will continue to feed the lawn for up to 10 weeks during the spring season. It will also offer slow release potassium to help the lawn become more drought tolerant.
Fescue Spring Fertilizer Program
For fescue lawns, we recommend making an application of 19-0-6 Confront 3/Dimension between the dates of May 1st–May 15th. This fertilizer gives your lawn nitrogen to help it keep a lush, green color as we move into the summer. 19-0-6 Confront 3/Dimension also comes with post-emergent and pre-emergent control for summer weeds.
The most important part of managing a lawn is providing it with fertilizer and preventing disease, insects and weeds. The premium programs linked below will provide all the essential elements that your lawn requires this spring to grow healthy.
